Chair of the Board of United Continental Holdings

Retired Chairman, President and CEO, Air Canada, and Chair, ACE Aviation.
Donor of endowed scholarships at UWCSEA, Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) and the University of Virginia

Robert Milton won the prestigious ‘Top 40 under 40’ award which recognises those who have achieved significant levels of success in leadership and innovation before age 40. It was awarded based on his career success founding and growing his own airline company in his twenties, followed by his rapid rise within Air Canada to become a Vice President at age 33, and President and CEO at 39.  From 2004 until 2007 he was Chair of Air Canada, Aeroplan and regional carrier Jazz, and from 2004 through 2012 he was Chair and CEO of ACE Aviation, Air Canada’s parent company. Robert has also served as Chair of IATA, the world airline body. Currently, Robert is the Lead Director of Air Lease Corporation, is a director of TAP Portugal, serves on the board of the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, is a trustee of the Georgia Tech Foundation, and in May 2016 was appointed Chairman of the Board of United Continental Holdings, the parent company of United Airlines.

While a student at UWCSEA, Robert spent many hours out at Paya Lebar (pre-Changi) airport, watching planes take off and land, dreaming about his future career in commercial aviation, which he was sure of even then.  When asked about his memories of the school he says, "UWCSEA, for me and I suspect most of us, was a special place, at a special time. It was about friends whom today remain my closest. It was also about our education, which though we might not have known it at the time, was locking into place a cornerstone in the foundation of our lives." After graduating from UWCSEA, Robert earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management from Georgia Tech.

A passionate supporter of education, Robert and his wife Lizanne (UWCSEA Class of 1983), established in September 2010 the Lizanne and Robert A. Milton Endowed Scholarship programme, which endows four needs-based scholarships in perpetuity at his alma maters, Georgia Tech and UWCSEA. In 2015, they introduced the Milton Family Scholarship at the University of Virginia, also needs based, and funded in perpetuity.
