Political scientist, author, travel photojournalist
Professor of Political Science
Co-founder and Executive Director of NGO, Gendercide Watch

A political scientist, writer and travel photojournalist, Adam Jones is also a tenured Professor of Political Science at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and the co-founder and Executive Director of Gendercide Watch, an NGO aimed at “confronting gender-selective atrocities against men and women worldwide.” He teaches courses which include the topics of genocide and crimes against humanity, gender and international relations, the politics of the Global South and African politics.

Adam is the author or editor of some fifteen books including Genocide: A Comprehensive Introduction, New Directions in Genocide Research, In Iran: Text and Photos and The Scourge of Genocide: Essays and Reflections. He is currently editing a volume titled The Rape of Males in War and Genocide.

After attending UWCSEA as a National Committee Scholar from Canada, Adam went on to obtain his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees and a PhD.

In 2010, Adam was selected for inclusion in the book, Fifty Key Thinkers on the Holocaust and Genocide -- the second-youngest scholar to be so citedIn 2011 he was selected as an expert consultant to the United Nations Office of the Special Advisor for the Prevention of Genocide (OSAPG), based in New York. He has helped to lead OSAPG seminars for UN personnel, government officials and nongovernmental organisations in Switzerland, the USA, Thailand, Indonesia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Macedonia, and most recently Serbia. His sessions include building bridges between communities and meeting with government figures and representatives of threatened minority populations, 


For seven consecutive years (2009-16), Adam was recognised by UBC’s Teaching Honour Roll as an outstanding professor. He has travelled in more than 100 countries worldwide. His "Global Photo Archive" on the Flickr website now includes 18,000 photos from over 60 countries. The photos, all published under a Creative Commons license, have been used by thousands of universities, governmental and nongovernmental organizations, publishers, bloggers, and major media including The AtlanticForbes, and Slate.
