The UWCSEA Foundation is delighted to announce the establishment of the Lizanne and Robert A. Milton Endowed Scholarship programme.
Lizanne and Robert’s gift of US$3,200,000 (S$4.3m) will fully endow four needs-based scholarships at the United World College of South East Asia (UWCSEA) in Singapore and Georgia Institute of Technology (GT) in the USA. The gift enables the scholarships to be awarded in perpetuity.
The four endowed scholarships will allow students from a range of backgrounds the opportunity to experience outstanding educational opportunities at both senior school and undergraduate level. This gift brings Lizanne and Robert’s recent investments to educational initiatives to approximately US$5 million.
* UWCSEA will receive a gift of US$1,200,000 (S$1.6m), to endow a two-year, IB Diploma scholarship, allowing a student of promise and potential the join Dover Campus every two years in perpetuity. * GT will receive a gift of US$2,000,000 to endow three scholarships: 1. An international scholarship with first preference for a UWCSEA graduating scholar to join Georgia Tech every four years. 2. A Georgia Tech Promise scholarship designated for a highly qualified, low-income resident of the State of Georgia to join the university every four years. 3. A scholarship designated for a highly qualified American student residing outside the State of Georgia the opportunity to join GT every four years.
Lizanne and Robert are both UWCSEA alumni. Lizanne has focused on a career in philanthropy; after graduating from university she helped to found one of the largest volunteer organizations in the U.S. Robert graduated from UWCSEA in 1978, and from Georgia Tech in 1983, going on to establish himself as one of the airline industry’s most renowned and skillful leaders. As President, Chairman and CEO of Air Canada, he reinvigorated it with a new business model to more effectively compete against low-cost operators and remains the Chairman of the Air Canada holding company, ACE Aviation.
Lizanne and Robert’s endowed gift is an investment in the future strength and success of UWCSEA and GT. Their gift will be held in perpetuity, with the investment returns being used to fund the annual scholarship commitment.
All four scholarships are full needs-based awards and will commence in August 2011.
